It’s time to bring your team online and on top of the digital tools out there. Even if you are not working as a remote team today, you should be prepared for the shift, or at the very least, be able to keep your business running when there is no way you can meet in a physical space. Chances are you already work online with your team in various ways, even if you are sitting in the same office, you probably talk more through your online project management tool than you are outside of the screen, it’s just more productive and to the point that way.

As a consultant, I do most of my work remotely, and as a digital strategist, recommending tools is a big part of my job. For creative workshops it maybe more fun (but almost never necessary) to be on site, other projects tend to become more productive when they are structured for remote work. Less interruptions, chit chat, and more to the point.

In this post I will mention my favorite tools specifically for online meetings. There is no such thing as a perfect tool. We usually want to take one feature from one tool and add it to another. The tools you need will vary depending on your type of business and the size of your team.

These are the basic things you want to keep in mind when choosing an
online meeting tool:

  • Design and ease of use

  • Number of participants aloud

  • Time limits

  • Screen sharing possibilities

  • Co-browsing possibilities

  • Recording function and storage space

  • Group chat functionality

And of course you need to consider what the right price for your needs are. Many tools offer a free trial and most have a free version without access to premium features.

Based on these factors here are my favorite online video conference tools:

These will suit you well if you are a small to medium sized-company. You will probably need more than an online meeting tool to be an efficient remote business. In this free resource you will find tools for remote design work, coding, project management, social media and more. To create a successful remote team, technology and tools are not the only factors to consider. To foster a culture of remote work, organisations need to match the technology with some other factors, for example social aspects. As you would in physical context.

if you are setting up a remote team or thinking of going partly remote, I will be glad to help you get started with ideas and tools. Just get in touch.
